Jesus riding donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday with crowds holding palm branches - Triumphal Entry biblical scene

Jesus's Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem ~ Jesus is the Messiah ~ John 12

The Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday

The starting point for Jesus's Triumphal Entry was in Bethphage, on the Mount of Olives, in Jerusalem, just east of the old city. This is where Jesus sent His disciples to find a colt upon which he would ride on, into Jerusalem. This day commemorated as Palm Sunday.

The Crowd Welcomes Jesus with Palm Branches

12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:

"Hosanna!
'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'
The King of Israel!"

14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:

15 "Fear not, daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey's colt."

This was the Sunday before Christ arose, today called Palm Sunday. When the people cried out:

"Hosanna!
'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'
The King of Israel!",

Until this point, Jesus had discouraged expressions of support from the people (6:15, 7:1-8) Here he allowed public enthusiasm.

The Disciples Prepare the Colt as Jesus Predicted

Jesus sent two of His disciples to fetch a colt, preparing them by recounting exactly what would happen and what to say. The events occured just as Jesus had predicited. The disciples returned with the colt and Jesus rode it toward Jerusalem.

Jesus Defends the Crowd's Praise in Jerusalem

Jesus entered Jerusalem and received the glad shouts of the crowds (John 12:12-15) He defened their cries, telling the critical Pharisees that had the crowd been silent, the very stones would have cried out (Luke 19:39-40)
