Jesus walks on the Sea

 "And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray." (Mark 6:46) Jesus spent several nights in prayer during his ministry. Prayer was a vital part of Christ's communion with the Father and always preceded and accompanied especially difficult situations. This particular night followed a busy day when solitude was sought but not found. 

Three miracles are contained in this brief account in Mark 6:46-52. 

1) Jesus sees his Disciples in the Storm.

In the darkness Jesus saw the disciples out in the storm miles away.

2) Walking on Water

Jesus walked on the water.

3) Christ's Authority Over Nature

Jesus showed complete control over His creation when the wind ceased.

The Central Role of Christ

Praise God, Hallelujah! Mark, the writer of this passage omits the added detail of Peter walking on the water to meet Jesus (see Matthew 14:28-31) He wanted his readers to know of the central role Christ plays in this account. 

Understanding Christ's Divine Authority

Jesus intended to reveal Himself to His disciples in a miraculous manner. He could have easily calmed the waves from shore, but He wanted His disciples to understand His diety and mastery over all nature.
