Jesus Took Our Infirmities and Bore Our Sicknesses On The Cross-Matthew 8:17

Jesus Took Our Infirmities and Bore Our Sicknesses

17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

"He Himself took our infirmities
And bore our sicknesses."

This verse quotes Isaiah 53:4; "that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:"

How Jesus Fulfilled Isaiah's Prophecy About Healing

Jesus Heals Today: Understanding Divine Healing

Jesus didn't come to destroy the law but to "fulfill" it. "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." (Matthew 5:17-18)

"He Himself took our infirmities.....and bore our sicknesses": (Matthew 8:17)

Why Jesus Healed the Sick: Divine Compassion Explained

Jesus healed because he had compassion on the people (see 9:36; 14:14; 20:34; Mark 1:41; 5:19; Luke 7:13). Our physical infirmities are ultimately the result of the Fall of Adam.

Jesus's Mercy and Healing Power in Action

Jesus healed many on this evening. In Mark 8:25, Jesus's twenty-third miracle, healing a blind man, Jesus put spittle on the man's eyes and laid his hands on him. He asked if he could see anything. The man claimed to see men that appear as walking trees.

The Scofield Bible points out the nature of Christ's mercy revealed by this miracle: "Our Lord's action here is significant. Having abandoned Bethsaida (Matthew 11:21-24), He would neither heal in that village nor permit further testimony to be borne there (Mark 8:26). The probation of Bethsaida as a community was ended, but He would still show mercy to individuals. (Cf. Revelation 3:20)"

Jesus touched the man's eyes again, and he now saw clearly.

How to Pray These Promises from God

  1. Acknowledge God's Power: Start by thanking Jesus for His power to heal and for bearing your sickness on the cross (Matthew 8:17).
  2. Quote the Scripture: Speak the healing promises (like Jeremiah 17:14 or Psalm 103:2-3) as a prayer, asking God to fulfill them in your body.
  3. Declare Your Faith: Declare, "I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done," and believe for complete restoration.
  4. Ask for His Word to Heal: Ask Jesus to send His Word and heal you (John 10:35, Matthew 8:8).
  5. Call for Prayer (If Applicable): If you are able, call the church elders as James 5 suggests, for prayer and anointing with oil.
