Christ in the Scriptures: The Living Lord of Creation
The phrase "in Christ" (or its equivalent) appears about 35 times in the New Testament. Jesus is not a distant stone deity like the pagan goddess Diana;
Jesus is alive and empowered as the Lord of all creation.
Christ Seated at the Right Hand of God
He is seated at the right hand of God's throne where He interacts with His followers on earth in a dynamic way.
The Believers Identity and Calling in Christ: Ephesians
As a believer in Christ, our identity in Christ is we are chosen, adopted, redeemed, and sealed as God's treasured possession, while our calling is to live out our new, holy life in unity, love, and purpose, reflecting Christ's glory through good works and spiritual maturity. (Ephesians 1:3-14)
Jesus as Head Over All Things to the Church: Ephesians 1:22-23
Jesus, says Paul, is "head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all", "And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (1:22,23).
Living in Christ: Hope, Life, and Purpose in Ephesians 1:12, 2:5, 2:21
Paul's point is that in Jesus we've been given HOPE, "that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory" (1:12), and made ALIVE, "even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved", (2:5), in order to GROW, "in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit" (2:21) and make a difference in this world by the way we live. Praise God! Hallelujah!
Redemption and Grace Through Christ
Saved by Grace Through Faith: God's Gift in Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:8,10
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not that of yourselves; it is the gift of God....For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" Ephesians 2:8,10.
Redeemed by the Blood of Jesus: A Hymn of Salvation
The message of Ephesians centers on salvation by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. This timeless truth is beautifully expressed in the classic Christian hymn "Nothing but the Blood of Jesus." Written by Robert Lowry in 1876. This powerful worship song reminds believers that our redemption, forgiveness, and righteousness come solely through the blood of Christ—not by our own works or merit.
As Paul declares in Ephesians, we are saved by grace as a gift from God.
As you listen to this moving rendition of "Nothing but the Blood of Jesus", reflect on the precious blood that cleanses us from sin and makes us whole in Christ.
The Authorship and Purpose of Paul's Letter to the Ephesians
Paul identifies himself as the writer of Ephesians at the beginning and in the middle of the letter (1:1; 3:1). The letter is similar in content to Colossians, suggesting that both letters were written during the same imprisonment in Rome, around AD 60.
Strengthening the Body of Christ
Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians to strengthen these congregations. He wanted them to understand the spiritual reality behind the numerous groups that gathered in houses all over the Mediterranean world, and he wanted them to encourage each other in the faith.
They were the Body of Christ.
